Inspiration

Working in hospice is not the sad, depressing line of work most people think it is. Was I affected sometimes? Yes. Strong boundaries are required in any social work position, but especially in hospice. I have met some amazing people. People that should have had stories written about them in news articles and no, none of characters are based on any patient of mine. Although, I would say the Robert is inspired by the many World War II veterans I had the privilege of serving during their last days.


I’ve also had the privilege of working with our veterans that served in the Korean War, Vietnam, and even a few from more recent conflicts in Afghanistan. The experience, attitude, and overall outlook of each veteran is as varied as the war they fought. I’ve done my best and will continue to do my best to reflect the struggles they face.


Believe it or not, I did not set out to write a military romance. I was just writing a story about love and hope, but as my characters revealed themselves to me, it developed into what you find on the pages. I hope that it resonates with something in you and gives you courage to live life on purpose and with kindness in the middle of a world that wants to focus on the negative.
